PRAYER
Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven, Give us this day, our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation. Deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever, Amen.
There is power in prayer. We shall consider the Lord’s Prayer as a prayer outline.
The first line says, “Our father, which art in heaven”. You see, for our prayer to be effective, we must have a relationship with God – an intimate relationship. The way we approach a father is different from the way we approach a boss. When we approach God out of intimacy, our prayers do not have to be official. We can be ourselves before God. We can be real.
The Lord’s Prayer says; “our father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name…” For our prayers to be effective, we must have an intimate relationship with God.
Secondly, we must hallow his name. We must begin our prayers with worship, praise and thanksgiving. Sometimes we are so concerned about our needs. In most cases the first things we utter before God are about problems. But we realize that God also has needs. Christ said that the time has come when the true worshippers must worship the father in spirit and in truth, for the father seeks such to worship him.
You see, God desires our worship. When we meet his own need, He will meet our needs also. The psalmist said that we should enter into his God’s gates with thanksgiving in our hearts, and into his courts with praise.
When a child thanks you for yesterday’s gifts, you are more disposed to give him more today. Before we talk to God about the things He has not done, let us talk to God about the things He has done. Let us extol his virtues, tell him He is faithful.
Whatever you need from God, Please let’s thank Him first before we ask for all those things and it will be well.
You will succeed!
